Guardian Bird

Yorkstone – 20” x 5 ½” x 9”

I watched a collection of birds that came down to a nearby Hawthorn in the hedgerow. They flitted between branches in search of the largest, ripest berries.Very soon a squabbles erupted with a frenzy of wings, beaks and loud vocalisation. One of the birds saw this bush as its own and instead of feasting, spent its time in the serious task of seeing off invaders.

The scene inspired Guardian Bird –  (guardian of the berries) the bird sculpture has a protective spirit, looking out for its supply of Hawthorn berries as they ripen in the late summer sunshine.

It is a bird simple in form, but strong with intent.
